Perry Buckner joined Yarborough Applegate in 2019 and has practiced law in Charleston since 2011.  Since 2019 alone, he has helped to obtain more than $110 million in verdicts and settlements for his clients. These results include some of the largest single-injury settlements in the history of South Carolina and have included the representation of victims in cases involving industrial workplace accidents, tractor trailer collisions, defective products, negligent security, insurance bad faith, corporate negligence, medical malpractice, and nursing home neglect. Some of these results include:

  • $28.5 million settlement resulting from the delayed diagnosis of a pediatric brain tumor.
  • $20 million settlement resulting from the death of a worker at a cement plant in Holly Hill, South Carolina.
  • $21 million verdict against Dominion Energy in Colleton County, South Carolina.
  • $6 million settlement involving FELA/Railroad liability resulting from severe injuries suffered by a railroad worker.
  • $5 million wrongful death settlement in an automotive products liability case
  • $2.5 million negligent security settlement resulting from a minor child who suffered gun shot wounds.

Perry has been recognized and selected by his peers in South Carolina as a “Rising Star” in the Super Lawyers publication for Plaintiff’s civil litigation and has been selected as one of the “Top 40 Under 40” in South Carolina by the National Trial Lawyers Association.  He frequently lectures and presents at legal seminars for the South Carolina Bar, the South Carolina Association for Justice, and other organizations involving topics such as trial strategy, healthcare litigation, and corporate negligence cases.

Perry grew up in Walterboro, South Carolina—just fifty miles south of Charleston—and his small-town values of hard work, discipline, and integrity help shape his work and strategy in every case. Perry is a passionate advocate for victims who have suffered catastrophic injuries or the death of a loved one and brings a client-centered focus to every case. Having spent  the first eight years of his career as defense lawyer, he has a unique insight and perspective into the methods and strategies that affect the value of cases.

Victims of Alcohol-Related Crimes Beware: S.C. Bill 533 Targets Innocent Victims of Drunk Driving

Legislation currently pending before South Carolina’s General Assembly would fundamentally alter our state’s civil justice system and make it harder for innocent victims to pursue justice and be made whole. Our firm is closely watching Senate Bill 533, and in the most recent issue of SCAJ’s Justice Bulletin, Yarborough Applegate attorney Perry Buckner explores what it means for victims.
