Amy Johnson, along with friends and family, prepared a delicious meal on Saturday for approximately 60 people at the Ronald McDonald House in Charleston. The meal included oven-roasted chicken, a variety of sides, and homemade dessert. Amy and her husband, Jeff, began volunteering at RMH five years ago following their youngest son’s hospitalization at MUSC Children’s Hospital. Fortunately, Amy and Jeff lived nearby, but they recognized the additional hardships facing families who travel to Charleston for medical care. Amy has felt first-hand the respite in a simple home-cooked meal and she says that she benefits as much as the recipients, knowing that her efforts are making the RMH families’ stays in Charleston a little more comfortable.
Ronald McDonald House is an important non-profit program that provides housing in Charleston to families who travel with their children for medical care. With the help of RMH, families are able to remain together during trying times. Children receiving medical care who are able to remain with their families benefit more than when families must be separated, according to RMH.
Yarborough Applegate donated to the cause by writing a check to RMH for $1,000.
