The Case: This settlement was reached after a 68-year-old woman was severely burned while laying on a heating pad during a breast augmentation surgery. Despite the instructions for the heating pad clearly warning against laying directly on top of the device as well as using the device on an unconscious person, our client was told to lay directly on top of the pad before being administered general anesthesia for a four-hour surgery. She woke up to find first- and second-degree burns on her back and buttocks in the shape of the pad’s coils.
