Construction Site Settlement for Injured Drywall Worker
The Case: This settlement was reached after our client, an undocumented Mexican immigrant and drywall worker, fell 15 feet through a set of shoddily constructed stairs while carrying construction materials and landed on the concrete below. The stairs were built by a subcontractor and were noncompliant with the building code, lacked the required bolts, bracing and ledgers, and were unable to support a reasonable and expected load during the course of construction. As a result, our client suffered severe injuries, including a spinal cord injury, persistent bowel, bladder and sexual dysfunction, right-lower extremity weakness, knee instability, a traumatic brain injury and post-concussive disorder.
