Yarborough Applegate Is Proud To Partner With MADD
In honor of Alcohol Awareness Month, we wanted to tell our readers a bit about our partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, or MADD. We often represent victims of drunk driving and know first-hand the devastating effects these tragedies have on the victims and their loved ones. We fight for these victims and against the establishments that serve alcohol in an unsafe manner. The over-service of alcohol by restaurants and bars is a public safety issue. When restaurants and bars over-serve customers who then get behind the wheel, everyone on the road is put at risk. Thankfully, South Carolina has “Dram Shop” laws that protect victims of drunk driving and hold establishments that over-serve patrons financially responsible to the victims.
In 2016, when Yarborough Applegate’s own David Yarborough and David Lail published a book on “Dram Shop” law, we made the decision to donate all of the proceeds to MADD.
There are 300,000 incidents of drinking and driving per day in the United States. In South Carolina, there were 331 deaths due to drunk driving in 2016. We partnered with MADD two years ago sponsors because we would like to see these statistics change.
This month, we will be heading to Columbia for the second year in a row to Walk Like MADD. The Walk is MADD’s largest community awareness event that is being held in over 90 cities throughout the U.S. To learn more about why we walk and to donate to our team, please visit our team page here.
In October, we’ll be heading up to Greenville to once again Walk Like MADD.
For those looking for other ways to get involved with MADD, we suggest you visit MADD’s site here to learn about the many ways you can support this organization.
