Yarborough Applegate Attorneys Perry Buckner and David Lail Present at 2021 SCAJ Convention
Last month, Yarborough Applegate joined attorneys from across the state for the South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ) Annual Convention. The event features a dozen seminars delivered by legal experts on topics including ethics, torts and negligence, and workers compensation.
Lail’s presentation, titled “Keep Calm and Question On: Deposition Tips for Young Lawyers,” provided attendees with a few best practices including active listening, using the power of silence, dealing with objections, and other tips to enable new lawyers to establish credibility and earn respect.
Meanwhile, Buckner presented on the topic of corporate negligence theories of liability in healthcare litigation. Knowing that many attorneys shy away from bringing the corporate case for reasons including expense and difficulty in proving causation, Buckner broke down the process from pre-suit workup to trial.
SCAJ is a membership organization of over 1,200 attorneys across the state of South Carolina sworn to advocate for fairness under the law. A partner at Yarborough Applegate, Lail is a familiar face at SCAJ meetings and events. Last year, he conducted a CLE panel discussion for the first-ever virtual annual conference. He recently served as Chair of the SCAJ’s Torts & Negligence section and maintains a seat on the Board of Governors and Executive Committee.
Having worked as a defense lawyer on behalf of insurance companies for nearly a decade, Buckner brings a unique and invaluable perspective to his work as a personal injury attorney. That viewpoint, paired with his on-the-ground understanding of how to prepare a case for trial and increase the value of his client’s case, makes for a rich and informative presentation at events such as this one.
