Yarborough Applegate attorneys have secured a $9.8 million dram shop settlement for our client who was severely injured in a drunk driving wreck in Charleston. After a day of drinking on Shem Creek and in downtown Charleston, our client’s intoxicated girlfriend crashed head-on into another vehicle as he slept in the back seat of the car.
The incident occurred in June 2020. The couple had spent the day drinking on Folly Beach with friends before continuing to drink at a Shem Creek restaurant. From there, the group headed to a downtown Charleston bar for more drinks. Our client left his girlfriend at the bar and fell asleep in the backseat of the car. Around 3 a.m., his girlfriend returned to the car and started driving, heading the wrong way down an I-26 exit where she crashed into an oncoming vehicle at a speed of 50 miles per hour.
The crash left our client with catastrophic injuries that included traumatic brain injury (TBI) and orthopedic injuries. He spent two months in the hospital and required multiple surgeries.
