Charleston, S.C. — Yarborough Applegate, a plaintiff’s law firm based in Charleston, South Carolina, is proud to support statewide innovation by contributing to South Carolina Research Authority’s (SCRA) Industry Partnership Fund (IPF). SCRA fuels the state’s innovation economy via grants and investments to companies and projects across South Carolina. It’s funded in part by contributions to the IPF.
SCRA assists key players in innovation as they work to solve diverse and complex challenges spanning three core focus areas: Advanced Manufacturing & Materials, Information Technology, and Life Sciences. Recent grants include the funding of startups dedicated to improving medical outcomes, from emergency events to diagnostic testing.
“At Yarborough Applegate, we are keenly aware of the difference that cutting-edge technology can make,” David Yarborough, founding partner, says. “Embracing tech and innovation has allowed our firm to explore new information avenues during discovery and more precisely articulate the extent of our clients’ injuries in the courtroom. In many ways, it’s helped us revolutionize the way we approach our cases. We hope to see other business leaders join us in supporting statewide advancements made possible by a robust, dynamic tech and innovation economy.”
A robust innovation economy—defined as an economic environment that facilitates the production of ideas and information—creates cutting-edge technologies and higher-paying jobs locally. The innovation economy in South Carolina has a $1 billion annual statewide impact, SCRA reports, and it’s estimated that for every 10 jobs supported by SCRA, an additional 16 jobs are created elsewhere.
“We value having the Yarborough Applegate Law Firm as a mission partner and contributor,” says Bob Quinn, SCRA executive director. “We would not be able to support our technology startups and academic research and development without contributions like theirs, which help to fund our grants and programs. They are investing in the overall financial wellbeing of our state and that’s highly commendable.”
