Posted: November 30, 2021

We’re excited to announce that Yarborough Applegate is expanding our team with the addition of two new attorneys. John Dodds and Alexandra Heaton have already hit the ground running in our Charleston, South Carolina office, where they will continue to be an invaluable asset to our team into the future.

In their pursuit of justice for our clients, these two talented attorneys each draw on a rich and diverse slate of experience. Read more about Dodds and Heaton below, and please join us in extending a warm welcome to them!

JOHN DODDS

Trial lawyer John Dodds comes to Yarborough Applegate from a well-respected defense litigation firm in Charleston, an experience that equips him with indispensable insight in dealing with insurance companies that are actively fighting against our injured clients.

Growing up in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, as the son of a local attorney, Dodds knew his calling at an early age: to be a staunch advocate for people who need help navigating the complexities of the legal system.

After earning his undergraduate degree from Tufts University, where he played varsity quarterback for four years, he attended the Charleston School of Law, graduating summa cum laude. Dodds went on to clerk for the Honorable Edgar W. Dickson of the First Judicial Circuit, before joining his previous defense litigation firm. There, he litigated a wide array of cases in both state and federal court, in practice areas spanning wrongful death, catastrophic personal injury, products liability, construction defect, and insurance bad faith, and more. ALEXANDRA HEATON

Originally from Orangeburg, South Carolina, Alex Heaton comes to our firm from a private practice with emphasis on insurance defense, personal injury, and premises liability. In joining Yarborough Applegate, she’s eager to shift her focus to representing people who have been injured due to the negligence of others. In her short time with the firm, she’s already made an impact, helping achieve a $3.1 million verdict during her first month on the job.

After graduating magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina Honors College, Heaton began her career as a broadcast journalist and worked for several years as a news producer, investigative reporter, and anchor. Seeking to continue digging deep for insights and evidence and giving a voice to those in need, she enrolled in the Charleston School of Law, laying the foundation for her legal career. Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable Jennifer B. McCoy, a circuit court judge in Charleston County, before entering private practice in 2019.

Heaton is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association and is licensed in South Carolina, North Carolina, and the United States District Court: District of South Carolina. Read more about her background here.
