Yarborough Applegate is proud to continue its support of Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center as the “Raise the Paddle Sponsor” for this year’s Hope Grows Here dinner auction, an event that raised $1.4 million for the child advocacy nonprofit last week, with $560,000 coming from the raise the paddle portion of the auction.
Dee Norton’s mission is to prevent abuse, protect children, and heal families in the greater Charleston, South Carolina, area. It’s one of several nonprofits our firm champions as we seek to build stronger, healthier local communities through our legal work and philanthropic commitments.
Donations made at the May 5 dinner auction will support Dee Norton’s critical services, which include forensic interviews, therapy, and other resources. In other words, every dollar will be used to directly help children. As the Raise the Paddle Sponsor, Yarborough Applegate’s support made the evening’s “mission moment” possible, which shared the story of Dee Norton’s work and the impact it has on the lives of children in our community.
This year marked the event’s return to the Cedar Room for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the tradition in 2020. Jessica Yarborough, wife of founding partner David Yarborough, again co-chaired the fundraiser. Last year, she was integral in helping Dee Norton pivot to a pledge-style “non-event” to comply with COVID-19 social distancing protocols. Even with the change in format, the fundraiser was able to provide 182 vulnerable children with the services they need in 2021.
“Jessica has a passion for helping people, especially those who have suffered trauma and adversity,” says David Yarborough. “She’s an embodiment of everything we do at Yarborough Applegate: To support victims in every way possible. To help them heal.”

Yarborough Applegate is thrilled to continue our support of WakeUp Carolina, a Charleston, South Carolina-based organization that offers resources and support for individuals and families facing addiction and substance abuse disorder at no cost to them.
We are currently representing victims in a lawsuit over the alleged incidents of child sexual abuse at North Charleston’s NewSpring Church, and will stop at nothing to secure justice for survivors of all ages.
Yarborough Applegate’s David Yarborough was the keynote speaker of the event, which raised $65,000 for the Charleston-area organization.
