Yarborough Applegate is proud to announce its support of Step 1 Recovery Resources, a Charleston-area nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals who are struggling with substance use disorder access treatment at no cost to them. A recent donation from Yarborough Applegate will help connect ten individuals to life-saving treatment, offering them the chance to begin their recovery journey with dignity and support.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled about our community partnership with Yarborough Applegate and the firm’s generous support of our mission,” says founding board member Pam Hricik. “Step 1 exists to be a lifeline for individuals who are ready to turn their lives around, but who lack the financial means to access treatment. The support we provide is the first step in building a foundation for lasting recovery. There is an urgent need for this work in our community—and none of it would be possible without partners like Yarborough Applegate.”
Supporting our local community is a core tenet of our firm. We are proud to contribute to organizations that extend a hand to those in need and work tirelessly to improve the health and well-being of everyone who calls the Lowcountry home.
“One of the most meaningful things you can offer someone is an opportunity—a chance to shape their life’s path,” says founding partner David Yarborough. “Our support of Step 1 Recovery Resources reflects our deep commitment to charitable giving and to the well-being of our community. We hope others will be inspired to join us in supporting this essential work. Together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder.”
ABOUT STEP 1 RECOVERY RESOURCES
Step 1 operates across Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties and is powered entirely by volunteers in order to fund treatment for as many people as possible.
Founder Cyrus Kamini began this work over a decade ago, leading a grassroots effort to connect unhoused individuals in Charleston with treatment options, supported by The Jake Koenigsdorf Foundation. After years of changing lives, he formalized those efforts through the creation of Step 1 Recovery Resources, which became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2023.
Today, Hricik says the organization is focused on strengthening community relationships, raising critical funds, and expanding awareness of its mission.
Yarborough Applegate’s support comes on the heels of Step 1 being the beneficiary of this year’s Recovery Jam CHS, an annual music and arts festival that combats stigma, celebrates sobriety, and raises vital funds for local nonprofits.
